January 29th Barfield Trails Work Program.
The work will take place on the Valley View Overlook Trail, up on the bluff near the viewing structure. It will consist primarily of widening the trail tread by the use of fire rakes and mattocks -- in other words chopping and digging.
The tread is overgrown to a narrow path of only 12 inches in some locations. I have 6 fire rakes and 3 mattocks for use. If someone has a weed whacker, this could be put to good use, along with a swing blade. Of course there is always use for a lopper and bow saw or two.
We will carpool from the Wilderness Station, leaving at 10AM, out to HWY 231 near the base of the plateau and walk in from there, thus saving carrying in all the tools for a long distance. Bring water and a lunch snack.
