Hike Report- GSMNP Backpack

Eight backpackers, 6 from Nashville and 2 from Murfreesboro enjoyed a Girl's Only weekend in the Smokies. We completed about 16 miles hiking the Rabbit Creek, Little Bottoms and Abrams Creek trails. Upon arriving we were told some folks had just had a bear encounter on the trail...all we encountered was a big pile of bear scat loaded with acorns. We enjoyed two invigorating creek crossings, a beautiful bright moonlit night on Saturday and one lightening strike on Friday night that caused us all to double check that our hearts were indeed still beating! I didn't bring my camera on this trip so I will be posting photos on Wednesday after I get pictures from Diane and Ann so check back later in the week to see what that lightening strike did to a huge tree not 50 yards from our campsite! We were very lucky that the rough weather Murfreesboro endured did not make it to the park.
