Buggytop -Sara

We had 11 hikers to hike the Buggytop trail off of Highway 56 in Sewanee. There's new signage at the trailhead so no one missed the parking lot this time. It was a cool morning to start the hike first to the large cave opening and then we stopped off at Peter's Cave on our way out. Some of us stopped by the Natural Bridge arch on our way to enjoy lunch at Shenanigan's Restaurant. Hikers were Jim Barritt, Jay Brain, Joe Campbell, Patty Deen, Wayne Drown, Peggy Harris, Robin King, Sara Pollard, Zoe Ramsay, Carl Westman, and Wayne Yancey.

Buggytop Trail and Natural Bridge

We hiked 4.0 miles on the Buggytop Trail to the Lost Cove Cave in Sewanee. The rocks on the trail were very slippery and we had to watch our footing. We saw some beautiful wildflowers and unusual mushrooms along the way. After this hike we stopped off at the Natural Bridge on our way to have lunch at Shenanigans.

Jim Barritt of the Highland Rim chapter and I were the only two hikers on this trip.

Buggy Top - Sara

This hike was "rain or shine" because of the unpredictable weather lately and I'm glad I didn't cancel it. It rained on the way to the trailhead, but once we got to Sewanee the rain had stopped. The rocks and roots were slippery on the trail so we had to be extra careful. From Murfreesboro, hikers were Jill Cutler, Sara Pollard, Amy Sutton (Nashville chapter), and Wayne Yancey. Jane Ellett (Soddy Daisy), Debbie Wilder and Pete Broehl (Upper Cumberland) met us at the trailhead. We hiked first to Peter Cave and had a break while Amy, Jane and Pete explored the cave. Then we headed to Buggytop Cave and had a challenging descent to the cave entrance. It was especially slippery because there was so much mud on our boots. We didn't get off the trail until around 1:30 pm and  since we were hungry  it was decided to head over to Shenanigans for lunch and visit the Natural Bridge another time. It was a great hike and saw lots of pretty wildflowers.
