Fiery Gizzard - Sara

We had 7 hikers to hike the Fiery Gizzard in Tracy City. We started at the Grundy Forest picnic area and finished at the Foster Falls trailhead. This was a joint event with the Highland Rim chapter and Marietta Poteet was the co leader. She told us a lot about the history of the area and pointed out the rerouted sections. We enjoyed the fall colors and since we are experiencing a drought there was no water at the waterfalls. But we enjoyed the views and rock formations.  We took the Dog Hole trail and enjoyed a break at Raven's Point.  We had two guests - Ian from Spring Hill and Paula from Trenton, Tennessee near Jackson. Hikers were Glenda Brewster, Joe Campbell, Paula Lancaster, Ian Murray, Sara Pollard, Marietta Poteet and Gloria Dale Williams.

Fiery Gizzard - Sara

We had 8 hikers May 13 to thru hike from Foster Falls to the Grundy Forest State Natural Area picnic area. It was 13.5 miles total because we took the spur trail to have a break at Raven’s Point.  We had lunch near a small waterfall right before you get to the old moonshine stills. We hiked the 2 miles rerouted section of the Fiery Gizzard and it is absolutely beautiful. A lot of stone steps were brought in to make it easier to get through all the rocks and steepness of the terrain.  Since we’ve had so much rain lately, the creeks were running and there were waterfalls everywhere. Hikers were: Jean Breuer, Carolyn Fitz, Ann Ford, Michael Glennon, Betty Magee, Sara Pollard, Marietta Poteet, and Sal Zanca.

Grundy Forest - Fiery Gizzard - Tony

Ten of us from the Tennessee Trails Association (TTA) walked about 3..5 mile loop of the Grundy Forest Day Loop at South Cumberland.  We passed several waterfalls and some beautiful terrain all in a short hike.
