Henry Horton State Park

Spring Creek and Hickory Ridge Trail

We had 8 hikers to meet at the Wilhoite Mill trailhead on a below 30 degree cloudy and cold day. Unfortunately, the hike leader (Sara)  didn't know beforehand the Wilhoite River Trail was closed due to construction of a water line along the river. So, we hiked the short but beautiful Spring Creek trail and took the Wilhoite Mill loop trail back to the trailhead. Then we drove over to the camp store and hiked the Hickory Ridge Outer Loop trail. Our total distance was a little less than 5 miles, but it was a beautiful hike along the Duck River and light snow was still on the ground. We enjoyed lunch in the park restaurant and the food was delicious. Hikers were Jay Brain, Anna Lina Buckley, Jeanie Coulter (HR), Stuart Coulter (HR), Paula Lancaster (Jackson), Sara Pollard, Lynn Rosser and John Ruth.

Henry Horton State Park - Sara

This was supposed to have been our annual John Ruth's breakfast and hike, but John had to bow out because of family illness. We met at 10:00 am at the camp store to begin our hike . Noel Pasco of the Columbia chapter isn't in the first group photo because he was running late but was able to catch up with us on the trail. We got on the trail in the tent campground and turned left on the Adeline Wilhoite trail and hiked all the way to the end. We then hiked the Wilhoite loop trail and continued on the Wilhoite trail past where we began. We hiked to the Wetlands overlook and had lunch in the pavilion. The frogs were singing their hearts out and were pretty loud. It was a bit chilly, but the sun would pop out occasionally. Hikers were Jay Brain, Joe Campbell, Amanda Carkhuff, Noel Pasco, Sara Pollard, Lynn Rosser and Al Suppinger.
