Barren Fork and Collins River Paddle

There were 14 kayakers from 4 different chapters who kayaked the Barren Fork & Collins River in McMinnville. We dropped off our kayaks at the put in at Pepper Branch Park and took our vehicles to the takeout. The takeout was in the old VFW parking lot, but the building is no longer there. The parking lot is huge and there's no charge to park there. We had some fun ripples on the Barren Fork and got out a couple of times to enjoy the cool water. Kayakers were Jim Barritt, Cathy Conley, Wendy Fish, Joan Hartvigsen, Tony Jones, Nancy Juodenas, Kerri Meeks, Sara Pollard, Marietta Poteet, Julie Roberts, Georganne Ross, John Ruth, Suzanne Thigpen,  and Michel Travers.

Barren Fork & Collins River Paddle

Wayne Yancey led 10 kayakers down the Barren Fork & Collins River in McMinnville. There was a chance of thunderstorms later in the day so we got off the river before the rains came. The water was refreshing and we made several stops along the way for folks to cool off. We saw several turtles, cows and a herring. Also, some pretty wildflowers on the banks. We had a few ripples to guide our kayaks through but nothing challenging. Kayakers were Jim Barritt, Joan Hartvigsen, Tony Jones, Nancy Juodenas, Gary Kimbrell, Craig McBride, Lora McBride, Sara Pollard, Jan Safavi, Cindy Watson, and Wayne Yancey

Collins/Barren Fork Rivers- Sara

Wayne Yancey led a paddling trip on the Barren Fork River in McMinnville. We paddled about 6 miles below the Barren Fork River Dam in the Pepper Branch Park. We were concerned the river level was too low, but it was shallow only in a couple of places. We got out a couple of times to have snacks and lunch. The Barren Fork River runs into the Collins River with the take out being at the former VFW Club on Highway 70.  Paddlers were Jim Barritt, Nancy Juodenas, Craig McBride, Lora McBride, Sara Pollard, Marietta Poteet, Jan Safavi and Wayne Yancey.
