Greeter Falls - Sara

We had 10 hikers for the Sunday afternoon hike to Greeter Falls, Boardtree Falls and the Big Bluff Overlook.  Even though the weather report was predicting isolated thunderstorms, we didn’t encounter any until the drive home. The sun stayed behind the clouds so it made the temperature seem cooler. The pools of water at Lower Greeter Falls and the Blue Hole were not clear and were very deep. This was a joint hike with the Highland Rim chapter. Hikers were Sara Pollard, David McGovern, Tony Jones, Juliet Cordova, Ann Ford, Joan Hartvigsen, Tom Hartvigsen, Marietta Poteet, Celia from Sewanee, and Pete Broehl of the Upper Cumberland chapter.

Greeter Falls - Tony

Saturday was a great hike with members of the Tennessee Trails Association. Four chapters were represented on this 7 mile trek from Stone Door Ranger Station to Greeter Falls.
There was lots of water in the three falls (Laurel, Boardtree and Greeter) and lots of surprise creek crossings due to the recent heavy rains. For the first time, I witnessed Stone Door and the gulf all fogged in.
There was no rain during the hike which is always a blessing.
Folks from Murfreesboro, Highland Rim, Sumner Trails and Nashville attended.

Greeter Falls - Tom Hartvigsen

Fourteen people attended the July 31 hike at Greeter Falls in Altamont led by Tennessee State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath.  They are from left to right, front row:  Randy Hedgepath, Tennessee State Naturalist; Robert McCarthy, Nashville; Carolyn Fitz and Carol Sampson, Sewanee. Second row:  Ruth Wells, Tullahoma; Pidge Cash, Murfreesboro; Linda Hudson, Manchester; Peggy Nunley and Joan Hartvigsen, Winchester; Faith Bennett, Murfreesboro; John  Bordley, Sewanee; Sidney Sexton, Huntsville; Drew Sampson, Sewanee. Not pictured:  Tom Hartvigsen, Winchester.  Randy Hedgepath spoke to the group about the history and geology of the Greeter Falls area and pointed out many types of trees, wildflowers, mushrooms, and birds.  In addition to the nature hike, the folks enjoyed a swim in the cool waters of the spring fed Blue Swimming Hole.  The outing was sponsored by the Highland Rim Tennessee Trails Association and was opened to the public.
