Earth Day in Huntsville - Bob

We celebrated Earth Day at Hays Preserve in Huntsville, Alabama on Saturday,
April 20.  Hays Preserve is located along the Flint River and since the
river went over its banks, the City had to relocate to higher ground!!!
There was a very heavy turnout of 2,000 or so regardless of this situation.
There were about 60 or so organizations represented.  Sandra Parker and I
used a newly constructed TTA display and manned the table from 10 AM-2 PM.
There were a lot of folks that stopped by to talk about hiking.  Many of
them recognized places on the display board.  I offered to send them a paper
that I wrote on Hiking in the Huntsville Area which includes all of the
organizations, including TTA, and places to hike.   IN order to get the
paper they had to provide us with their name and E-mail address.  We were
able to get 48 sign-ups.  I will send them the paper I promised along with
further info on the TTA.

A good time was had by all.

Earth Day Activity- Cathy

On Saturday, April 21, my daughter Sarah and I spent four hours at Earth Day promoting our chapter. The prevailing questions asked were: Do you do family oriented hikes, is there an age limit, and do you do kayak/canoe trips and other activities like giving back to the community. If we could do trail/road clean up or something, and get an article in the Daily News Journal about it with photos, I think it would help for people to know who we are. So many people have never heard of our chapter/organization. We really need to promote our club if we are going to get new life in it! If you have any ideas or wishes that we would/could do, please, please, please....come to our hike planning meeting May 8th at 6pm and speak up!!!! We invited a lot of young people, and people with families to come check us out. Please, we need your help to keep these people coming back!! Thanks! Cathy Bingham

Earth Day in Huntsville-April 21st - Bob

Sandra and I manned the Earth Day display at Hays Preserve in Huntsville on Saturday. It was a great day and lots of foot traffic. I have about 30 names and E-mail addresses for more info in the Huntsville Area, to include Tennessee Trails hikes. They were particularly interested in the Cumberland Trail and the volunteer effort.
