We had ten participants for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park hiking and camping trip at Cades Cove campground. We reserved group campsites #1 & #2 and the sites were really nice and private.
Our first day we hiked a small section of the Anthony Creek Trail that starts in the Cades Cove picnic area. That evening we enjoyed a potluck dinner of barbecue, broccoli salad, potato salad, baked beans and delicious brownies and cookies.
Tuesday morning, we were up early to hike to Gregory Bald. We took the Gregory Ridge trail for a round trip hike of 11 miles. It was hot but we would have an occasional breeze. The azaleas were in full bloom on the bald and beautiful. That evening we enjoyed leftovers from the potluck dinner the day before.
Wednesday morning, we rode our bikes around the Cades Cove loop. The loop is closed all day on Wednesdays and we enjoyed taking our time and exploring all the stops. Wednesday evening dinner was at a brewery/restaurant in Townsend.
We broke up camp on Thursday morning and headed home. Participants were June Callahan, Wendy Fish, Joe Gonzalez, Susan Gonzalez, Greg Greenhow, Joan Hartvigsen, Sara Pollard, Sherlene Spicer, Amy Sutton, and Gloria Dale Williams.
