Reelfoot Lake SP - Sara

We left Murfreesboro early for the 3 ½ hour drive to Reelfoot Lake State Park in upper West Tennessee. There was snow on the ground and a bit colder than in Murfreesboro. We had lunch at Boyette's across the street from the park before boarding the bus for the tour. Ranger Shain did an excellent job leading the tour and set up telescopes for those who didn't have a powerful camera or binoculars. We saw about 7 bald eagles and a few nests as well. This was the 19th Annual Reelfoot Lake Eagle Festival occurring the 1st weekend in February. After the tour we drove to the other side of the lake hoping to see otters. We took the Grassy Island auto tour and stopped off at the observation tower. We didn't see any otters but lots of bald cypress trees and "knees". Jeanne Conatser organized this outing. Also attending were Sara Kennedy, Sara Pollard and from the Nashville chapter June and Bill Callahan.

Ha! Mom (Mary Belle), a friend of hers from Rogersville, and I took the tour on Sunday morning! Ranger Shane was the tour guide for our tour, too. This was the 2nd time I've been on the eagle tour. I loved it!
