Upcoming Event- CT trail work weekend

We will participate in BreakAway next weekend the 6-7-8 of March (departing Fri. pm). We will be doing easy trail work: re-painting blazes, clearing brush and loping branches that are growing over the trail. The work will take place in the Soddy Daisy area. You can bring your own lopers, clippers, hand saws, and especially leather gloves if you have them. Otherwise we will be provided with tools and size large work gloves. Bring clothes for the trail that can get dirty, torn or splattered with paint...not your brand new North Face pants please! Don't forget your daypack and water bladder/bottles.

We will bunk at the Dogwood Camp in Soddy Daisy. Bring twin sheets or your sleeping bag and pillow. There are hot showers! Bring towels and toiletries. We will be between volunteer work groups...they depart Saturday morning and a new group arrives Sunday afternoon. For this reason we will be responsible for our own meals. Friday night we'll stop for supper on the drive to Soddy...we will also be able to enjoy the local bands that will be playing for the BreakAway volunteers Friday night. Saturday we'll need to bring fixings for our breakfast and trail lunch and snacks. Saturday night we'll chip in and order pizza from Little Ceasar's ($5, large, one topping!!!). Sunday we will need our own breakfast and trail lunch and snacks, then on the way home Sunday we will stop for a quick bite if we're hungry.

I am checking to see if we can access the kitchen for cooking our breakfast but worst case senario is we have to use our backpacking stoves. I have an extra one and can probably borrow more if needed so no worries there. We plan to depart M'boro at 5pm on Friday...let me know if this is too early for anyone and we may be able to work out another option! We should be home by 6pm on Sunday night.

This is a great way to give back to the CT and it will provide at least 10 hours of volunteer time if anyone is working toward their 50 miler patch! If you are new to trail building or just don't want to do the heavy rock work anymore this is the work weekend for you! To sign up contact Millette Jones at 615-397-9588 or millette.jones@comcast.net

We have five M'boro members signed up so far...it will be a fun time, come out and join us!
