Hike Report- Yanali & Stillhouse Hollow Falls

April 18th - Cheeks Bend at Yanahli, and Stillhouse Hollow Falls, Maury Co., TN: The wildflowers were spectacular along the trail at Stillhouse Hollow Falls. Some I remember seeing there were Larkspur, Wild Blue Phlox, Fire Pinks, Twisted Trilliums (new to me), White Trilliums (aka Large Flowered Trilliums), Spiderwort, Crested Dwarf Iris, Fringed Phacelia, Foam Flowers, and Virginia Spring Beauties. There were probably another 30 varieties I have not listed, plus a large Morrell Mushroom near the site of the old still. Although the flowers were not as showy at Cheeks Bend we saw some varieties not observed at the falls. These included Squawroot (a parasite feeding on the roots of trees, usually oaks), Shooting Stars (not yet in bloom), Prickly Pear (not yet in bloom), Mayapples (not yet in bloom), Wood Sorrell, and showy Sweet William. The only one to have a camera was Bruce Harvey so we made him the official photographer. His pictures will be ready in about a week so we can all work to identify them for the blog readers. Lunch was unusually good and plentiful, as usual, at Stan's Cafe. We gained a new member, Miriam Eason, a neighbor of Cathy Bingham.
