Charlotte, Sara, Paula and I braved the wet forecast to get out in the woods this weekend. We were rained upon for a good while but I used it as an opportunity to try out variations of my rain gear. The poncho was better ventilation than the jacket/pants combo but I need to add gaiters to keep from getting soggy boots next time! We ended up going to Prentice Cooper and hiking to Suck Creek as the bridges are not yet built over Possum Creek and we didn't want to risk a big creek crossing in the rain. There were still quite a few wildflowers in bloom and we had some good views of the river as well as one great overlook from which we were able to see all the way to Chattanooga. We did a bit of clean up at the campsite and hauled out a bunch of bottles and other trash as the camp was only 1.4 miles from the road and obviously frequented by the town folk with lots of liquid refreshment in tow! I suppose the highlight of the trip was watching a little Box Turtle munch on a worm...it doesn't take much to keep us happy!
Photos to follow as soon as Paula sends me the link....hint, hint!
