TRIP REPORT: Narrows of the Harpeth 8-14-10
The Murfreesboro Chapter, The Highland Rim Chapter and the Clarksville Chapter participated in a wonderful float down the Scenic Harpeth River in Kingston Springs, TN.
Tony Jones, Dave Anderson, Joan Hartvigsen, Tom Hartvigsen, Suva Bastin, John Sneed, and Paul Schwab all endured the 100+ degree temperature. We swam a lot, sweated a lot, and enjoyed the trip despite the heat. The May floods brought much damage to the area, and caused major alterations to the landscape. There were areas where we could see the flood water line almost 80 feet up. That's a MAJOR flood. Trees were mangled and shorelines shape-shifted and there were even more sandbars and they were in different places.
Looks like someone went in and moved them around, just to confuse us.
Suva & Tony enjoyed relaxing under the falls at the Narrows. The rest of the gang sailed on to the take-out. The area leading to the Narrows was overgrown and damaged and most did not want to trek into it. But, it was refreshing. Only slightly cooler than the river, which was like a warm bath.
