Hike Report: Stones River Battlefield and Red Robin 9-18-10

On Saturday Sept. 18, Tony Jones of the Murfreesboro Chapter led an easy hike for the Tennessee Trails around the Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro. We had 16 people from Nashville, Murfreesboro and Hendersonville. It was a fantastic trip and a nice day despite the high humidity.

After the hike we went to nearby Red Robin and enjoyed lunch and a little talking time.

Special Thanks to the new SUMNER TRAILS Chapter for joining us on this hike. We hope to see them again soon on other hikes.

The Battlefield is still being repaired from the massive tornado and parts of the area have been altered beyond recognition. At least for those that are used to the way the battlefield used to look.  The only redeeming thing about the tornado is that it has prompted the federal government to allocate millions of dollars in park wide renovations. It will be a bigger, better battlefield when its complete early next year.
