FRAN WALLAS 10/5/10

Hello Friends,

I am sorry to report that all hope for Fran's recovery has passed. I spoke with David this afternoon. He, his wife and their two children, and Adam and Becky were with Fran this past weekend.  They met with the neurology staff and were told that Fran's condition would never improve.  The movements of her arm and legs were random and not in response to any stimulus.  It was the same with her occasional eye opening and mouth movement.  Because of the stroke, she could never regain consciousness and would always be dependent upon life support.  Knowing Fran, as we and her family do, she would never want that.  Becky and Adam flew to their homes Sunday.  David and his family remain with Fran. The ventilator and feeding tube have been removed.  Fran is breathing on her own. She receives some morphine to keep her calm and comfortable.  David said Fran is at peace. He is hoping she can be moved from the critical care unit to a private room, where family and friends will have more privacy.  Fran will remain there until she is ready to depart.

I am so sad the news is not better.

Shirley

Fran is such a dlight. I knew here first when she came all the way down from Nashville to help build trails at Short Springs. She did this many times which impressed me. Her quiet demeanor was in total keeping with her love for our environment. When she passes we should all take a moment to reflect on what we can to to give back. Be it build or maintain a trail or to teach a child about our natural world. She is a gentle gentle soul that will be missed.
