Event Report: Jack L. Clayborn Millenium Trail at Edgar Evins 4-9-11 during the "Celebration of Spring"

Report by Tony Jones

I volunteered this year for the Celebration of Spring 2011 at Edgar Evins State Park near Liberty, TN. It was sponsored by Friends of Edgar Evins State Park and had hikes led by members of the Murfreesboro Chapter of The Tennessee Trails Association. The event was very nice, and we had a nice weekend for it. We camped at the park on Friday and pre-hiked all the trails and then we were ready for the big day on Saturday.

I was joined on the Jack L. Clayborn Millennium Trail by fellow TTA'ers Sara Pollard, Nabil Wakid, Martin McCullough and King Jamison as we led a group of 13 & 14 year old girls on their FIRST EVER hike. The 4 mile moderate hike was nice and we taught them about wildflowers, trees, a little history of the area and basic trail etiquette. It seems as though they had a wonderful time.

Other members of our Tennessee Trails chapter helped in other areas of the day long event. Mary Cole, Kathi Reagh, and Cindy Leech volunteered their time in other events of the day.

Special Thanks to Fount & Anna Bertram for planning and executing this great spring time event and also to the Murfreesboro members who participated as a volunteer or just came along to hike!
