We had six backpackers on the March 7-8 backpacking trip on the Mullens Cove 10.2 mile loop. Backpackers were Charlotte Broyles, Bill Heim, Andy Meeks, Sara Pollard, Scott Wieland, and Wayne Yancey. Jennifer Zahn, Joan and Tom Hartsvigsen joined us for a dayhike. We started our hike from the Cumberland Trail trailhead on Tower Road in Prentice Cooper State Forest. We hiked in 3.4 miles to Snooper’s Rock and continued on to the Hemlock Branch campsite. After setting up our tents we hiked to the Ransom Hollow Overlook and the dayhikers continued on to Tower Road to their vehicle. It was cold when the sun went down, but we built a roaring fire to stay warm. We finished the loop hiking out the next morning passing a nice waterfall. I was able to try out my new REI tent and Wayne used his new tarp over his hammock for the first time. The weather was perfect for hiking with beautiful views of the Tennessee River Gorge.
