We had 8 hikers to camp at the Middle Fork Campground in the Natural Bridge State Resort Park in Slade, Kentucky. Joan Hartvigsen did the careful planning of this trip but was unable to go because of her husband's surgery. Patty Deen of the Highland Rim chapter took over as hike leader and did an excellent job.
Monday night we set up camp, had dinner at the park's Sandstone Arches Restaurant and did a short hike behind the lodge. That evening around 1:00 am a terrible storm came through. There was heavy rain, lightning and thunder.
Tuesday, we hiked the Auxier Ridge Loop trail to Courthouse Rock and Double Arch. It was a challenging hike with outstanding scenic views. We enjoyed a potluck dinner in the campsite that evening.
Wednesday, we hiked the Rock Garden trail to the Natural Bridge. Then we took the Laurel Loop out to the overlook and Lover's Leap. We came back via the short Original Natural Bridge trail. We then took a short drive over to finish up the day hiking to Gray's Arch. Dinner that evening was dining outside at Miguel's Pizza.
Campers were Chuck Deen, Patty Deen, Windy Fish, Rosanna Ohlsson, Joni Perrine from Lawrenceburg, Indiana and former TTA member, Sara Pollard, Marietta Poteet, and Cynthia Skidmore.
