Bob, Eric, Ron, Jim
Perkins Point Viewshed
On Saturday, on what turned out to be a hot and humid day (90F +, 60% +) three hearty souls, and one not quite so hearty, consisting of Bob Askey, Eric Luncford, Ron Dunn, and Jim Schroeder, ventured down to the Soddy Daisy area to challenge the Possum Creeks Gorges.
The traverse from the Heiss Road Trailhead included the crossing of the two fiberglass bridges, passing by many rock and land features including Stack Rock. But ascending Hughes Ridge to Perkins Point Overlook provided the foursome with best view hike, that of the Tennessee River Valley with the Smokies looming in the distance, all amid the start of the fall color change.
However the heat and humidity made the up and down elevation changes of about 1000 feet in both directions during this rather rugged hike extremely trying on the senior hiker and the trek was cut short at the Concrete Bridge after a 6.1-mile jaunt.
