Maude’s Crack – Big South Fork - Hike Report – September 28, 2013
There were 26 hikers in all for the combined hike with the Plateau and Upper Cumberland chapters. There were 6 members from the Murfreesboro chapter, plus three guests:
Roy Duncan, Ann Ford, Ann Jacobs, Sara Pollard, Kim Williams, and Vicki Williams. Guests were Roy’s brother Howard Duncan, Scott Hull and Stacy Asberry. Howard Duncan is a park ranger in the area and shared a lot of the history of the families who used to live in the Big South Fork. We enjoyed our lunch at the John Muir Overlook. Some of us were a little surprised at the narrow Maude’s Crack – and when I saw it – I looked at Curt and said “Really? You can’t be serious?”. It was an insane climb straight up and very narrow, but we all made it. Life is full of challenges!
