It was certainly a perfect day for a hike! The sun was out for a while and temperatures never got above 50 degrees. We had seven hikers to meet at Sam’s to leave at 6am– Sara Pollard, Rene Barr, Bill Lamb, Eric Luncford, Wendy Spence, Eric Goodwin, and Daniel Wich. Louise Miniard of the Upper Cumberland chapter met us at trailhead. We also met a group from Soddy Daisy who hiked with us to McNabb Gulf campsite. We had a snack here and then they ventured off to bushwhack to Davis Pond. In that group was Don and Carol Deakins, Judy and TC Varner, Jane Ellett, Bob DeHart and Harry. From there we still had 9 miles to go. We had clear and beautiful views of the Tennessee River along the way, pretty waterfalls and stream crossings. We stopped for lunch at the Raccoon Mountain overlook. This was a long and difficult hike, but our last stop was at Snooper’s Rock and everyone agreed it made the hike well worth it.
